Kitchen Floor Ideas For Your Freestanding Kitchen

If you're thinking about a revamp in your freestanding kitchen this year, one important design ingredient you’ll need to consider is your flooring. As a fundamental connective element of your kitchen, your decisions will have a huge impact on the entire aesthetics and practical working of your space. So it’s imperative to make the right choice.

When it comes to flooring, tastes and preferences vary depending on the individual and their needs. Some will lean towards the clinical, no-nonsense cleaning benefits of ceramic tiles, while others might prefer the rich aesthetics and homely feel of natural wood.

Why not let Hugo & Blake guide you through some of the flooring options available and see which might best suit your kitchen space.

Ceramic tiles

Functional, hard-wearing, easy to clean, and stylish—tiles are very much the go-to choice when it comes to kitchen flooring. Their multipurpose qualities allow for a perfectly natural fit in both modern and traditional kitchens.

From a practical standpoint, perhaps the key advantage of a tiled floor is that they’re incredibly easy to maintain. As long as you’ve got a mop handy, the majority of stains and spills can be eradicated in an instant. The downside of tiles? They can be uncomfortably cold to the touch—particularly when barefoot on a cold winter’s morning!

Hardwood floors

Robust and full of natural character, there are few kitchen styles in which a hardwood flooring doesn’t look great. Particularly suited to traditional freestanding shaker kitchens, a wooden floor can be just the finishing touch your space needs to bring the whole country aesthetic together.

If you've already installed wooden worktops and freestanding cabinets, it’s an easy win to create a harmonious theme within your kitchen by installing hardwood floors. Adding flourishes of contrasting materials—copper or brick, for example—is a great way of ensuring your space isn’t looking too one-dimensional.

Natural Stone

Another fantastic flooring choice for your freestanding kitchen is natural stone tiles. A little more impactful on your budget, perhaps, but there’s plenty in the way of versatility with a number of different stone tiles available. Both marble and granite offer a whole range of colours and patterns. The most popular stone finish, however, tends towards a more natural aesthetic.

There is a bit more in the way of upkeep with natural stone tiling. After they’re installed, it’s common for your new flooring to be sealed and re-sealed at regular intervals as it ages and succumbs to the wear and tear of a busy household. With plenty of care and consideration, though, this a stunning, hard-wearing flooring option.
